Drugs and gun found during traffic stop

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department catch another individual with drugs and a firearm in their vehicle Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. This is the second similar incident in less then two weeks for the deputies and one in many busts involving illegal drug activity.

According to a news release, Sgt. Clint Wright of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis for careless driving. Upon contact with the driver, 26-year-old Dontray Hampton of Caldwell Street in Russellville, Wright detected a strong odor on marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Upon future investigation, Hampton was found to be in possession of one ounce of marijuana and a 9mm handgun.

Hampton was later charged with Careless Driving, Licence to be in Possession, Possession of Marijuana and Drug paraphernalia.

Wright was assisted by deputy Kyler Harvey of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and Sgt. Ed Higgins of the Auburn Police Department. The investigation is still ongoing.
