I am writing this in response to a recent article in the paper which District 1 Magistrate Russell Poore and County Attorney Joe Ross mentioned concern about the local landfill selling residual air space to another waste provider when its contract runs out in June of 2015.

In that article they mentioned zoning laws. I have attached a recent article in which another landfill and its community are involved in a show of force over its zoning laws. Todd Hageman is the attorney watching this and his contact information is also included if anyone in Logan County wishes to contact them about any environmental concerns with our landfill. The EPA told me personally that this landfill in Logan County should not have been allowed to construct here 20 years ago due to the geography. He said that only our local government can make stipulations to protect us.

Today and not tomorrow is when something needs to be done. Tomorrow philosophy is what put us in this situation today. After you have read the below article and have questions of those attorneys please contact them. I have gotten personal advice and advice is free. Without the advice from them we would be much worse off today. The landfill knows it.

I would also like to thank the Vehicle Enforcement for showing force of the law on our county roadways. One of the landfill garbage haulers was stopped 37,000 lbs. over weight I hear. Today they had scales set up and doing a fine job. Thank you to them, our hats are off to you.

Moretown Landfill in Moretown, Vermont ordered to stop and reverse construction of odor control cap Posted by: Todd S. Hageman. We had previously blogged that the State of Vermont had given the landfill a firm deadline to “clearly and convincingly demonstrate” that they can control off-site odors. VT Digger is now reporting that the landfill has now been ordered to stop construction on a cap designed to control odors because it is not within the bounds of the landfill’s Act 250 permit and local zoning laws. We are closely watching this situation.
