Producers who have land under contract through The Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) are responsible to control undesirable species, such as thistles.

The 2008 drought was one of the most serious doughts that Kentucky has experienced in recent history. These conditions proved to be difficult on newly planted fields allowing undesirable species such as thistles to invade some of the Native grasses and wildflowers plantings.

If thistles or other undesirable plant species are a concern on your CREP acres, The Kentucky Department of Agriculture has offered to make available sprayers for the fall spraying season to address the thistle situation. Inquiries for sprayers should be made at the Farm Service Agency Russellville Service Center 253 D Hopkinsville Rd. Russellville.
