We had a First Congressional District meeting at Hopkinsville on Oct. 24, 2009. Martha Jane King was the first speaker. She talked about how Logan County carried 61 percent for Bush in 2004.

She said when this happened, she was heartbroken because she thought it was her fault. So she had to come up with a plan. She came up with no issues, but a plan to show Logan County what we were all about. We had to be our own person and quit trying to play politics and get back to the grassroots of the party and work hard for the people and forget trying to just beat the Republicans.

The only way to get back our pride was to let the Republicans beat themselves. They did that by slinging mud on us – telling people we weren’t Christians. I don’t know about your church, but we don’t ask party lines at my church. You can fool most of the people part of the time but you can’t fool all the people all the times.

We as Democrats need to reach across party lines for the good of the people.

We need to show our young people that they can make a difference in this county, state and the U.S.A.

You are the key ingredient in the success of our party.
