I have lived in Logan County almost twenty years. I have lived in or around the Auburn area. I have always believed in buying in your home town; or your home county whenevre possible. I felt this way because, not only does it help your community to prosper, it helps the small business man to stay in business. Recently, I wanted to purchase some plexi-glass. I chose to go to a local glass vendor, even though I was in Bowling Green that morning and had to go back to Bowling Green that evening. I wanted to purchase the plexi-glass from a small business in my community.

I knew it would cost a little more than buying from a larger business. As a child, I was raised to treat people the way I would like to be treated. I was taught to be honest, fair, work for what you get, and thank God for what you have. I am very, very proud of my up-bringing.

I am very unhappy to have the learned the hard way that everyone wasn't raised the way I was. I told a man at the store that I wanted to purchase a small oval shaped mirror, approximately 9" by 5." I also wanted to purchase two sheets of plexi-glass 36" by 36", 1/8" thick. I did not, however, ask about the price.

I assumed in my mind that the plexi-glass would cost around $20 a sheet and the mirror around $10 to $15. I was expecting a total of around $50 - $55. I was absolutely sick to have to pay $119 for these three items.

When my husband and I asked, "Why so much for three items?" we were told that the plexi-glass was cut "for us" and that it cost $54 a sheet. I was extremely sick when I went back to Bowling Green that evening and saw just how expensive plexi-glass was. I could have bought a 36" by 30,' 1/8" thick piece in Bowling Green for around $12.

I was only needing the plexi-glass for projects and hobbies and the man at the local store knew this, because for some reason, he asked what I was going to do with it. I feel as though I was lied to and stolen from. I honestly find it impossible to believe that a small business has to charge approximately four and a half times as much as a large business in order to make a profit. I will however, never do business at this establishment again.

I still choose to believe that a majority of people are good and honest. It saddens me to say, though, I will no longer trust people the way I used to. That trust was stolen when I had to pay a small fortune for some plexi-glass, all because I trusted and I wanted to help the small business man.
