The Logan County Sheriff’s Department will be getting two fairly new cruisers soon, as the purchase was approved by fiscal court Tuesday upon Sheriff Wallace Whittaker’s request.
The sheriff said he needs three, but only has $40,000 in his budget to use. He told the magistrates he had looked around several places for vehicles. Whittaker quoted the Dodge Charger for $23,000 each, but they came unequipped. It would cost another $5,000-$7,000 to put the necessary equipment on and within them. “The Charges are nice, but expensive,” said Whittaker.
Another quote found was from Missouri for $16,500 each. These cars have 55,000 miles on them and are 2011s. However, they are also not equipped and would cost extra to bring them up to standard.
The quote the court settled on came from Phil Bilyue in Auburn, who could acquire low millage cruisers from Murray State University campus police. The court approved the purchase of two 2011, Ford Crown Victorias with 30,000 miles for $17,500 equipped. Whittaker said all the county would have to do is install the radio and have it painted and striped.
