The Russellville Country Club brought $472,000 at auction on Saturday.

The buyer, who is from the Chicago area, but has family here in Logan County wished to remain anonymous until the sale was officially closed, said mike Riley, the realtor who was in charge of the sale.

“He wasn’t even there,” Riley said. “I believe it was his brother-in-law that handled the bidding for him.”

The buyer purchased both the golf course and the clubhouse/restaurant. The two properties were offered as individual tracts, but both were purchased together.

“We had several people bidding on it - both as separate tracts and together,” Riley said. “It wound up going for a very fair sale price.”

The golf course will likely remain open as either a private or semi-private business.

“It’s my understanding that he is planning on keeping the golf course and the restaurant open,” Riley said. “I think that’s a good thing for the community, to see it all still be there. It’s been a good asset for Russellville and I am glad someone decided to step up and keep it going.”

Riley said there was about 250 people present at the auction - mostly just interested onlookers.

“There was a lot of country club members there - both present and past,” Riley said. “I think they were happy with what happened. most of them are very happy that he is going to continue to keep it going similar to what it has been.”
