The Logan County Cougar football team faced Apollo High School on Friday night in a scrimmage at Cougar Field.

The Cougar football team was geared up and ready to face the Eagles and started the scrimmage at a good pace, but by the end of the first quarter had hit the wall.

Senior running back, Gage Hales, scored a touchdown for the Cougars in the first quarter - despite playing with a broken hand. Hales was disappointed at the result of the scrimmage.

“I feel like we beat ourselves more than anything. I don’t think we were physically ready,” said Hales. “We have a lot to work on. We’re a team and we have our off’s and on’s. We can’t do anything but look forward to the next game.”

Coach Dain Gregory agreed with Hales in that the team had a lot more to work on before their regular season opener on Friday.

“The effort was there,” said Gregory. “We started fast and ended slow, we’ve got to get in shape.”

Gregory said the team had some big plays but fumbled the ball too much. He said the team turned the ball over too much and that they needed to work on protecting the ball.

“I believe we got what we needed,” said Gregory. “Now we’ve just got to fix what we need to fix.”

The Cougars open the season Friday with a home game against Butler County.
