The city of Auburn is wrapping up a two year multi-phase water line replacement project that has allowed for better pressure in certain areas of the city and and the looping of dead end water lines.
The city received over $800,000 in 2010 by way of a Rural Development grant and a low interest loan from the USDA. The project called for replacing old lines on Peterson Avenue as part of phase one of the project. Phase two of the project was to replacing lines and hydrants and tying up dead end lines on Walnut, College and Short Maple Streets. Other areas affected were Watkins, Rogers, Sunset, and Circle Streets.
Some of these lines have been in the ground for years and years and have been leaking a little bit and needed to be replaced. This project was something they city has needed for several years. The lines were in bad need of replacement. The city hoped by rerouting some of the lines, it would supply decent pressure to certain areas.
The project also paid for an inspection and repainting of the city’s water tower by a company called Horizon. The tank painting was done the end of last year and was part of the second phase. The tank has a new design, which includes a light blue background and an American flag.
