“It’s a wonderful problem to have” stated Cheryl Kelley, Assistant Adult Education Director. We have such a high demand for classes at the Learning Center on Spring Street, we have had to cut back our Auburn instruction hours.”

LC Adult Education has been offering classes and tutoring in Auburn for approximately five years. Classes were first offered in the resource center at the Auburn School. Then they moved to the library. Last year an opportunity was made available to move the Auburn Learning Center to the old Auburn Bank in the center of town. This was a great location. Unfortunately, the costs were too high to maintain the site. “We were just about to close the Auburn site, when Linda Kompanik , Logan County Public Library Director called and asked if we wanted to move back into the library,” stated Joyce Bond, Teaching Assistant. The move was completed that week. Currently the Auburn site assists as many as 10-12 students each day they are open. It is a wonderful opportunity for Auburn residents that do not have transportation to Russellville. The Auburn Library is located at 433 West Main Street in Auburn.

Joyce Bond, has been working in one capacity or another with LC Adult Education since 1998. She started as a volunteer in the tutor training program. Upon completion of the program, she then was hired as an office aide and then a tutorial assistant. Currently, she works as a teaching assistant. “I am a people person. I love just about everyone I meet. I love to see the joy in their faces when they learn a new skill,” she exclaimed in a recent interview. “I love the challenge of the student that has difficulty in learning.” Pam Morgan, LC Adult Education Assistant Director reinforced her statement. “Joyce is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met.”

Classes and tutoring in Auburn will now be available Wednesdays, 1-4 and Thursdays, 8-12. New session is beginning the week of Sept. 17 at both locations. Please contact the LC Learning Center at 270-726-8777 Monday – Friday.
