Hello my friends from Logan County, some 40 other counties in Kentucky and over 30 states in America. (Where all the homes are located that have subscribers to this newspaper.) It is amazing that this paper goes to so many locations usually to relocated native sons and daughters of our county. Hello to you all and thank you for your support.

The Red River Fish & Game Habitat (Club) in Adairville is sponsoring one of the biggest events of the year in Logan County on Monday evening July 4. The doors open at 4 P.M. There will be a big BBQ dinner with all the trimmings and a drink for only $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. The well known Freddie B, one of the top 10 Elvis Impersonators in the country, will be entertaining. (He is young, handsome and has a beautiful voice.) There will be door prizes, a raffle and possibly an auction item or two. All this will then be followed by one of the largest ever free fireworks displays in the history of Logan County. The event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. The event will be held at James Lake and the habitat’s club house. This is only three blocks east of the town’s only stop sign. Come and enjoy us for a great evening.

I have decorated my house this year more than ever before for the 4th of July. I have American flags, red, white and blue bunting and lots of other things over my porches, on my house, on the mailbox, front and side doors and even one of my cars. I believe we need to support all of our former and current military. We need to remember what our country has stood for since 1776 and the need to continue to support our great country. When you see a person who has served or is serving in the military thank them for their service. Thank your police, emergency personnel and firemen. They are serving our country as well and are helping protect you and I. Pray for this great country and pray for wisdom for our leaders so they will do the right things to help protect us all and for what our country stands for.

Remember that the Logan County Fair is just a couple of weeks away. It will be held at the Logan County Extension Service property on the Russellville By-Pass. Entrance to the grounds is free as is much of the entertainment. Check your computer and this newspaper for schedules and events. You can also contact the Extension Service for an update on scheduling.

Went over to Bowling Green to see my first pro baseball game of the year. I loved the nice stadium, cleanliness and professionalism of it all. (My dad was a pro baseball scout for the Boston Red Socks for some 28 wonderful years so I love baseball.) Unfortunately a huge storm came up and the game was called due to tornado warnings. I traveled to the game with officers of the Logan County Democratic Party. Needless to say we talked baseball and the current political campaigns going on around the country and locally as well. I sure slept well when I got home. Just wish our team had won.

I grew up in a home with a Republican father and a Democratic mother. That was a heck of a great experience. They loved each other but were true to their political beliefs. Unfortunately my dad had some of the Trump lack of reasoning in his quick to the gun attitude. I also grew up, as did my sister, when civil rights was bringing great social change to this country. My mom, sister and I supported social change and an end to segregation and discrimination. My father came along 15 or 20 years after the fact. Still he did come along.

If my parents were alive today I have no doubt dad would be supporting Trump and my mom would be waving a sign for Hillary! She would be outworking dad as well! It is no question from which side of the tree my sister and I fell so we too will be out working for our causes.

Just a side note. Both of my grandmothers grew up when women were not allowed to vote. When the U.S. Constitution was amended they both voted for the first time and were so proud that they could finally vote. Today, I look with a evil eye at those that are too lazy to vote. Which party you vote for is your business but at least vote. So many people in the world do not have the right to vote and want that right. In our country the right has been won but some are so uncaring and lazy and do not participate in a responsibility that they have. If you do not vote do not complain after the elections.

I have signed up over 50 citizens to vote in Adairville and know that most have now voted and proudly so. Over many years I have helped sign up hundreds if not thousands of new voters. I truly believe in practicing what I preach. I also sign up all people regardless of which party they vote for. I welcome a healthy debate and citizens exerting their responsibility to vote regardless of what party. Unless you are Amish and in some cases Mennonite, due to religious beliefs, you do not vote. I wish you did but I do respect your religious beliefs. For just about everyone else they need to register and vote.

Time to go. Good night Alberta Sanders. You are a wonderful lady! Good night Mrs. Calabash where ever you are and good night to you all.
