The Russellville Panthers played the Monroe County Falcons on Saturday night in the Fourth Region Tournament. The Panthers fought hard to make it to the semi-finals, but the Falcons would push past the Panthers to win the game. The Panthers would fall 75-58.
The first quarter of the game the Panthers would start off with the lead. With two minutes to go in the quarter, the Falcons would come back to tie the game 14-14. The two teams would battle throughout the quarter but they would end it with a tie of 23-23.
The second quarter would remain close throughout most of the quarter. With four minutes to go in the half the two teams would have the score tied at 29-29. The Panthers would make a few mistakes and the Falcons would start to pull away from the Panthers in the last few minutes. The Panthers would trail 31-35 at halftime.
The Panthers would keep battling in the beginning of the third quarter and keep close behind the Falcons. But in the last few minutes of the quarter the Falcons would turn up the intensity. The Falcons would cause several turnovers and the Panthers would start to slack offensively. The Falcons would end the third quarter with a lead of 54-40 over the Panthers.
The Falcons would continue to increase their gap throughout the fourth quarter. The Panthers would have a slow start but would begin to pick up their game halfway through, but the Falcons lead was too large. The Panthers would end their season with a 58-75 loss to the Falcons.
Lee McMurry led the Panthers with 16 points. Senior Barrett Croslin followed with 14. Tacorian Darden finished the game with eight points and Pedro Rivera had seven. Senior Christan Naylor had six, Jaylyn McMurry had three and Tremon Morris and Micah Naylor would finish with two each.
The Panthers finish their season with a record of 11-19. This year the Panthers made it to the semi-finals of the 4th region All “A” classic, won their third straight 13th district championship and broke the record with 11 straight appearances in the 4th region tournament.
