The state Beta Club Convention at the Galt House in Louisville on Dec. 13-14 yielded some big winners from Russellville High.
“Sydney Herndon won the prestigious John W. Harris Award for outstanding leadership,” said Beta Sponsor Tanya Mullen. “Only 25 Betas across the nation are selected annually.”
In addition to the award, Sydney received a certificate and paid tuition to attend the Broyhill Leadership Conference this summer.
“Sydney also placed first in on-site colored pencil drawing and will advance to the nationals in Richmond, Va.,” Mullen said.
Also advancing to nationals are Emilie Gill, who placed first in on-site pencil drawing and pastels, and Ethan Mullen, who placed second on the science test.
In addition, Kyle Prince placed third in advertising, Breanna Thomas placed third in recycled art, and the Living Literature team, comprised of Jason Fox, Jeffrey Fox, Sydney, Emilie, Kelsey Harris, Sarah Brown, Brittney Lyne, Hunter Moneypenny and Danielle White, placed third with their portrayal of a scene from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
“I am very proud of every student’s talents and efforts,” Mrs. Mullen said. “Each and every one of them represented Russellville High School well.”
