Hello again from the “Land of Logan”. One of the finest counties in Kentucky. One where we are fortunate to have some pretty good elected leadership, good churches, good schools and good people. This is a great place to live in America.
Start planning to attend the Logan County Fair next month. That is right. Just four weeks away and the county fair will be here. It all starts on Saturday July 26 with a big horse show at the new arena on the grounds of the county extension service on the by-pass in Russellville. Monday July 28 the animal judging begins. The big midway with rides opens on Tuesday July 29. Discounted arm bands will be on sale at the ticket offices on the grounds. Free entertainment begins on Wednesday July 31 and there will be exhibits. (Booth space is available for $50 for three days.) and there will be a big discount on the midway rides. (Car load of people is $30 for arm bands to ride for the day.) Thursday July 31 will be the beauty contests from tiny tots to Juniors, exhibits, rides and entertainment. Friday August 1 exhibits, music, rides and a truck pull in the arena. Saturday August 2 exhibits, rides, entertainment, big BBQ Cook Off Contests and that night two big named entertainment acts in the arena. (Tickets for the entertainment show will be $8 for adults and free for children eight years and under.)
Watch this paper for more information on the fair and listen to WRUS Radio. Lonny Epley, Fair Board Chairman and others will be giving out more information in the coming days. (WRUS is one of the fair sponsors.) For additional information call the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, 726-2206, the Logan County Tourism & Convention Bureau 726- 1678 or Daymar College 726-8311.
OTHER NEWS – The Adairville/South Logan Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday evening and received a report that the annual Strawberry Festival had been a great success financially. As a result the members voted to pay off the bank note on their building. They will now own the building free and clear! Great work on the part of the members and leadership.
The Old Court House Jamboree summer series musical entertainment continues Saturday July 12. This series of free music at the old county court house is from 2-6 p.m. each month. Refreshments are available at a small fee. For more information or booking call 270-847-5433.
DID YOU KNOW? 6,410 women have been killed by an intimate partner with a gun in the U.S. since 2001. At the same time 5,315 U.S troops have been killed in combat in Afghanistan. Makes you think!
WITH A SMILE – The guys at the court house asked me to name an actress I would like to be stuck in an elevator with. I told them the one who knows how to fix elevators. I am old, I’m tired and I have to pee a lot!
Time to go. Good night sweet Angel Sisters and Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.
