Well you guys it’s just like I said, as soon as it quit raining it will be HOT! As you can see my prediction came true. The only good thing about this HOT WEATHER is I will get a great sun tan when I am fishing.
Speaking of fishing, the other day the “old timers” at Wayne’s Place were talking about the fish had quit biting because it was hot. Well, I can tell you right now they are biting. That is if you can stay in your boat in the sun long enough to catch them. I must say we have been cheating! We have been fishing on the shady side this past week.
One other thing I can mention, the Hubby thought the price of gas had slowed down the people playing on the lake but after this “HOT SNAP” the boats turned out in full force. Also the floats came out of storage and everyone seems to be fighting to get their piece of the water. You remember I mentioned that little snake in my last column; I hope he got out of the way when all those boats came flying down the “FREEWAY”. You see that is what I call the stretch of water between Shady Cliff and the Dam. They can really churn up the water. Sometime I think we have the “Indy 500” right here on Lake Malone.
Also I saw my first pretty “NIGHT BOAT” this last week. You see that is the guys that fish during the tournaments. They are just out of this world. Most have lights down the side of their boat and they troll so slow. Some even have music and I can hear it traveling across the water.
There is a place just down from my house that they get hung up in every time. I really need to put up a sign that reads “THIS SPOT IS A HOOK MAGNET; YOU WILL BREAK YOUR LINE EVERY TIME YOU FISH HERE”. Do you think they would heed my warning? NO, it’s a man thing. They probably think that somebody put up the sign to keep them out.
What was really cute, our neighbor next door came down to the lake with his fishing pole. We were joking when we reminded him it was “Kids Day” at the lake; he replied “That’s okay”, I am still a kid at heart. He said it had been years since he even tried to catch a fish. Before you could blink an eye, he had one on his line. It was a crappie and the Hubby was so jealous. He offered it to the Hubby but he said no! The Hubby is kinda strange. He is one of those “I CAN DO IT MYSELF” kinda guys. So he put him back in the lake for someone to catch.
One other thing I have to tell all you fisher people out there. When you purchase crickets, do not leave them uncovered. You see we did not use all our crickets the last time we went fishing. I always slice a potato and put in their box for water. But the next morning as we were getting ready to go fishing a beautiful butterfly was in one of the crickets boxes and the crickets were eating away on his wings. I grabbed him out of there and asked him why on earth did he land in that particular place. I must say he had a tough time trying to fly away. It made me sad but the Hubby says that is just nature. We can’t do anything about it. So just in case you have crickets left over, place a sheet of paper over the top so the butterflies won’t have a “crash landing” right in your box.
This is the last bit of information I have for you today, there has been a wren flying around our porch. The Hubby kept talking about putting up a Wren House for the little bird but as usual he forgot. So as I was out back looking for something, there she was looking me straight in the eye. She had built a new home on a shelf right over my head. She looked at me as if to say, I am your new neighbor! Well, she is still there as I write you this note. I told the Hubby he could forget about the Wren House, she couldn’t wait on him to fix a place for her nest. I bet before too long we will have little birds for me to tell you all about.
Hope you enjoy the nature around you. Hug your children and take them fishing if you can. I love it. I know they will too. And most important, enjoy the moment, it’s later than you think. Bye now.
