Well, here I am again “drag tailing” around trying to get this column written. Lately it’s getting hard for me to put all the thoughts I have in my head on paper. Of course the Hubby says, it shouldn’t take long cause he really thinks it is empty. You see I don’t let him read them until they come out in the paper. You know why that is….he would want me to change them and you know me, I wouldn’t and then… yep, that’s when the fight would start.

Well, another holiday has come and gone and I really wonder if we the people really understand why this holiday is so special. There is only one word that comes to mind and it is FREEDOM. Freedom is a precious item that we have and so many of us take it for granted.

I couldn’t help but remember when I was a teenager; I found a trunk in the attic that had a neat white Navy uniform in it. It never occurred to me that my Dad was in the Navy. I remember the war when I was a child but really didn’t concern myself with it. Yes, I remember we could not get chewing gum. My mother complained because she could not get nylon stockings. Also my mother was from up north and that summer; all our neighbors gave her ration stamps to purchase gas so she could go see her mother. At that time, I didn’t even give it a thought; but you can bet I am well aware of our FREEDOMS today! Each of us should be!

You see I am always telling the Hubby, “you don’t miss something until it is gone” and then you think, man, I wish I had that back. Of course the Hubby doesn’t listen half the time either. So I really can’t tell you what to do until I get him straightened out and you know that will be never.

Well, I must mention that I was ready to see a lot of people out on the lake this weekend but guess what…the traffic in front of my house was not like it usually is on this great holiday. We had more people water skiing. Also the people who were doing the skiing were more mature. That is the nice way you say that they are older than most of the young people I have seen lately. We had no excitement or fireworks; really it was a very calm day.

The Daughter and her friend came by to see us and we ate, and ate and ate some more! I made the “GREEN BEAN BUNDLES” that was the winner of last year’s recipe contest and the fabulous APPLE DUMPLINS that won second prize. You see the Hubby was the judge and he picked the Green Beans and I picked the Apple Dumplins. Of course I run a copy of all the recipes off for the Daughter; I guess she is going to try and impress the nice young man she brought along when she makes him dinner in the future.

They are having Boat Church again this year. I think I mentioned that last year. I know last year I could not imagine going to church sitting in a boat. But it is really neat. This year some people tie their boat together so they can worship together. It surprised me that there were more boats there this year than there was last year. People bring their entire family even their dogs. If you live on the lake, come on down to the “big sign” near Shady Cliff Restaurant. I know everybody knows where that is located. One thing that is special, the music seems to float out over the water. Of course they had a great message too. They even gave each person a “sack lunch” to eat or take home with them. Of course we each got one; you know the Hubby wouldn’t pass up free food

Hope you remember that we “we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave”. We have many brave souls fighting for us every day. But most important, enjoy every moment because that is all we have. Bye now!
