Vella Mae Carter, 81, of Adairville, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Creekwood Nursing and Rehab in Russellville.

She was born in Logan County on Sept. 29, 1932, to the late Ben and Reitha Brake Delk. Mrs. Carter was a retired inspector from the Auburn Hosiery Mill and was a member of the Miller Town Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Corbin Delk and Milton Delk and by her sister, Maggie Hart.

She is survived three sons, Lanny Carter (Diane) of Dot, David Carter (Janice) of Franklin and Ronald Carter (Jada) of Russellville; two daughters, Marilyn Stevens and Carolyn Gainous (Wayne) both of Adairville; a brother, James Delk of Adairville; two sisters, Betty Stratton and Emma Williams both of Franklin; nine grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Vella Mae Carter will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17 at the Young Funeral Home Russellville Chapel with Don Billingsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Adairville. Visitation at the funeral home will be Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m.

Pallbearers are Brian Robey, Robert Grimes, Ross Carter, Timmy Gainous, Jon Saunders and Brad Carter.
