Russellville’s 28th annual Emancipation Celebration took place over the weekend with hundred of people coming out to celebrate the anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.


This year the festival, also known as the Eighth of August, featured a parade down 5th Street for the first time.


Also included was a blues concert on Friday night, and all the Saturday staples including the Dust Bowl basketball tournament, the men’s softball tournament, the golf tournament, lots of vendors and fun times.


This year’s theme for the Emancipation Celebration was “Reflections on a History of Achievements.”
