New Logan County Public Library to open Feb. 3
The Logan County Public Library Board is pleased to announce the opening date for the new library building, located on Armory Drive, to be Feb. 3, 2014, at 9 a.m.
The current library, located on 6th Street in Russellville, will be closed Jan. 1 through Feb. 3 for the move.
“We apologize for the inconvenience of closing for the move, but we are looking forward to serving your need to know at our new location for many years to come,” said King Simpson, director of the library.
The new building, is 14,503 square feet - about one-third larger than the current location on 6th Street. The layout is much more efficient, with space allocated according to modern library usage. Other differences include the energy-efficient geothermal HVAC, which will save on energy costs and be more environmentally friendly. There will be approximately 100 parking spaces compared to the very small parking area at the current library.
Simpson said the library will continue to offer numerous programs and educational opportunities. There will be meeting rooms available to the public. Groups looking to use that space will be able to register and reserve dates as soon as the new facility opens.
In preparation for the move, some services are being placed on hold. For instance, interlibrary loan service is currently suspended until the new facility is open. Also there will be no reserves on items while the library is closed.
“While we are closed our branches in Adairville and Auburn will remain open. We are looking into expanded hours for these locations during this time to see if that will help individuals out who need to use the computer or need something to read,” Simpson said.
