People eligible for the final Cancer Prevention Study-3 enrollment in Kentucky are encouraged to schedule an appointment now to avoid missing out on a unique opportunity to help researchers learn more about ways to prevent cancers.

Graves Gilbert Clinic in Bowling Green will host the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) enrollment, Nov. 20-22. The study is done through the American Cancer Society.

Residents between the ages of 30 and 65, who have never been diagnosed with cancer, can participate in memory or in honor of a loved one who has battled cancer. Those eligible may go online to www.cps3BG.org or call 1-888-604-5888 to schedule a date and time to enroll.

The on-site enrollment is a one-time event. Additional information requests will come in the form of mail or email surveys for updates on a participant’s health.

CPS-3 will help researchers better understand lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. Researchers will use the data to build on evidence from a series of American Cancer Society studies that began in the 1950s.

Those previous cancer prevention studies confirmed the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer, and demonstrated the link between larger waist size and increased death rates from cancer and other causes.
