Blessing all creatures great and small
by Chris Cooper Managing Editor
God’s creatures great and small are invited to a “Blessing of the Animals” service to be held Sunday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m. at the Russellville/County Park in the first pavilion.
Tom Thompson, who helps organize the event, says this is a good time for people to bring their pets out to be blessed.
The event, which has been going on now for almost a decade, is sponsored by Caney Fork Presbyterian Church where Thompson is a pastor.
The event originally started with the Russellville Presbyterian Church. There were a number of the people in the church that had animals and discussed it one day that it would be a blessing to bless animals because they are such a critical part of our life. Thompson said animals need spiritual love just as humans do.
“We thought let’s have a service that recognize the Lord, the animals, and then have a hot dog or two,” said Thompson.
The service will last approximately 20 minutes and then those who brought their pets can eat and have fellowship.
Any animals are welcome, said Thompson. No leashed are required, however, they are asking they be brought in case they are needed.
