Every experience we have in our lives is tied to purpose. If my life is in a process that is bringing me and is conforming me to the image of His Son, therefore it is important that I have the proper mentors in my life. Whoever you stand under ultimately is what you understand.
If you allow nothing to mentor you then you chase nothing, if you follow a fool you will be a fool. Now why would I even bring this up? The very essence of discipleship is one to one mentorship. And the elements that make up mentorship are being with someone. It is not about just about knowledge it is about behavior. John 17:3 (KJV) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
Biblical knowledge is; the knowledge you have about God changes who you are. If you say you know God and you never change then you really don’t know the God of the Bible. James 1:22 (KJV) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Notice “be ye” is before “doers.” We are to become, and behave the message not just do it. Ephes. 1:12 (KJV) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Paul is saying we are to “be” the praise not just do it! Jesus not only did the word of God He was the Word of God. John 1:1-3 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
We are not to just do church we are to be the church. Our doing is to be out of who we are. We do because we are. Not we do to become. The first is based on relationship the other is based on religion!
