The Altus Police Department began an investigation this morning related to a possible home burglary. The burglary, resulted in an exchange of gunfire in the 700 block of Hayes.
Police received a call that a suspect, wearing a grey mask, grey hoodie, jeans, and tennis shoes, had broken into a residence around 8:30 a.m. this morning. After the exchange of gunfire, the suspect fled the area on foot, prompting a search of the area led by Altus Police officers.
According to Altus Police Department Chief Tim Murphy, a man residing on the 700 block of Hayes came home to discover someone else was in the house. There was a struggle between two when one shot was fired in house. The victim was able to get the suspect’s gun from the suspect, and fired several shots as the suspect fled the scene.
The Altus School Board office and Western Oklahoma State College were among the facilities on lock down during the search. At press time, police had requested the City of Altus Blackboard notification system advise residents to remain indoors while they search for the subject that was considered to be armed and dangerous.
