The fall sports teams have begun practicing this summer to prepare for the upcoming season. The Russellville High School soccer team has been working hard the past week to get in shape before their season in August.
The team welcomes new head coach, Jonathan White, to the team to lead the Panthers. Last year, Russellville only had a junior varsity team, but this year they will have their first varsity team in several years. White is working with the team to teach them how to play on the varsity level.
“We hope to be competitive this year and win some games, but I want them to get more comfortable with playing on the varsity level and become better players,” said White. “Right now we are focusing strongly on conditioning and getting the players in shape. They will start getting touches on the ball and we will work on decision making.”
White says he wants the teams to work on decision making and to realize what to do and when to do it during a game. White is really focusing on getting the team to pick up the pace and get to the next level.
The Panthers will kick off their season with an scrimmage alumni game on August 9 at 4:00 p.m. at the Russellville High School track field.
