The fall high school sports season got under way this week with several local teams having a great start to the season.
LCHS girls soccer wins big
The Logan County High School girls soccer team won its season opener on Tuesday 9-1 over visiting Warren Central.
The Lady Cougars got four goals from Breanna Baptiste and three more from Emma Cartas. Lauren Allen and Brittney Barton also scored a goal apiece.
In addition to her hat trick, Cartas also recorded a pair of assists. Logan Williamson, Hanna Shelton, Allen and Barton also had one assist each.
Logan County was scheduled to play at South Warren on Thursday and will play at Daviess County High School this weekend in a tournament before returning to action at home on Monday, Aug. 25 against Muhlenberg County.
Lady Cougar volleyball blanks Franklin
The Logan County volleyball team opened the season with a home match Tuesday against district foe Franklin-Simpson. The Lady Cougars won 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-8) over the Lady Cats.
Junior Chanler Steenbergen led the Lady Cougars with 11 kills and five aces. Sophomore LeeAnn Coots had a team-high 13 assists. Sophomore Amber Carroll led the team in digs with seven. Maranda Wright added five kills.
Logan County was scheduled to host South Warren on Thursday and will play another district match on Tuesday at Todd County Central.
Russellville returns to varsity soccer
Russellville High School fielded a varsity soccer team for the first time in several years and played its first game on Tuesday at Franklin-Simpson.
The Panthers lost 10-0 in their return to the soccer pitch and were scheduled to host their first home match on Thursday against Warren East. RHS will host Muhlenberg County on Thursday, Aug. 28.
LCHS boys soccer smashes Hopkins
The Logan County High School boys soccer team won its season opener 7-1 over Hopkins County Central on Tuesday.
The Cougars were scheduled to face Todd County Central on Thursday in Elkton and will be back in action on Tuesday, Aug. 26, in another district match at Franklin-Simpson.
