The Russellville Panthers have added two wins this week bringing their season record to 17-15. The Panthers faced the Christian County Colonels on Monday in a game that went into extra innings. Senior Zach Denney would hit a home run in the ninth inning to win the game 6-5 for the Panthers. They would go on to face the Allen County-Scottsville Patriots on Tuesday and get a 7-0 win.


The Panthers gained a lead early in their game on Monday against the Colonels. Senior Barrett Croslin started off the Panthers with a double, followed by an RBI single by Denney. The Panthers would start out with a 1-0 lead at the end of the first.


But the Colonels come back to score two runs in the top of the second and add another run in the top of the third inning. In the top of the fifth, they would add another two runs to their score. The Panthers fell behind 5-1.But in the bottom of the fifth inning, senior Corey Wright doubled to bring in Colby Nichols and Croslin. The Panthers trailed 5-3 at the end of the fifth inning.


In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jordan Blick would get a big hit to bring in Denney and Jacob Procter. These two runs tied the game 5-5, sending to two teams into extra innings.


The two teams would battle through the eighth inning and go into the ninth inning. The Panthers defense shut down the Colonels fast in the top of the ninth inning and they would head to the plate to attempt to score.


Lead off batter, Zach Denney, stepped up to the plate for the Panthers. Denney get the perfect pitch and hit a home run. This would score the one run they needed to win the game 6-5.


Denney, Wright and Blick all finished with two RBI’s each. Jacob Procter pitched for two innings. He allowed one hit, two runs, walked two and struck out one. Senior Barrett Croslin came in to pitch for seven innings. Croslin allowed five hits, three runs, walked five and struck out eight.


The Panthers went on to face the Patriots on Tuesday. In the first inning of the game, Wright would get a hit and bring in Croslin. Desmon Quarles would end the inning with a big hit, bringing in Procter and Blick. The Panthers would hold a quick 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.


Wright would help out the Panthers offensively again in the second inning. He would get another hit to bring in Croslin and Denney. The Panthers would add another run with an RBI single by Blick. By the end of the second inning, the Panthers held a lead of 6-0.


The Panthers finished out the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after Croslin would hit a triple and then be brought on a hit by Denney. They ended the game with a 7-0 win.


Wright pitched for the Panthers all seven innings. He allowed three hits, no runs, walked none and struck out nine.


Wright also led the Panthers with three RBI’s. Quarles ended the game with two and Blick and Denney had one each.


The Panthers will travel to Livingston Central tonight and play at 6:00 p.m.
