The local softball and baseball teams are heading into the final two weeks of their 2014 seasons. All the teams have faced their ups and downs this season, but they have all had success this season.
The Russellville Panthers had their most recent win on Wednesday against the Todd County Central Rebels. The Panthers would get a big 11-1 win after a big first inning. The Panthers would begin the game by adding four runs in the first inning of the game. The Panthers would keep up their momentum and end the game in the fifth inning.
Senior Barrett Croslin and Jordan Blick finished the game with two RBI’s each. Senior Zach Denny, senior Corey Wright, Jacob Procter, T.K. Hampton and Colby Nichols all finished with one RBI each.
Jacob Procter pitched for the Panthers. Procter allowed one run, one hit, walked one and struck out eight.
The Panthers now hold a 11-14 season record. The Panthers had a tough start to the season, but they have come back to get big wins throughout the season.
The Panthers will travel to Caverna tonight to face the Colonels. Next week, the Panthers will face two district teams and determine their spot in the district tournament. The Panthers will face the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats on Tuesday and the Todd County Central Rebels on Wednesday. Both games will be on the Panthers on field.
The Logan County Cougars have a season record of 15-7. The Cougars started off the season with a even record, but has increased their wins over the last few weeks. The Cougars most recent win was over the Bowling Green Purples. The Purples beat the Cougars early in the season 10-0. But the Cougars came back to take the 5-4 victory over the Purples last Saturday.
The Cougars have several big wins within the district, but the Cougars fell 6-7 to the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats earlier in the season.
The Cougars will travel to Barren County tonight to face the Trojans and then to the home of the Bowling Green Purples tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
The Russellville Lady Panther softball team has a season record of 2-14 this year. The young team has celebrated the two wins this season against Springfield, TN and then their first game against the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers. This year, the Lady Panthers got their first home win since 2010.
Tonight the Lady Panthers will host the Warren Central Lady Dragons at 5:30 p.m. Next week the Lady Panthers will face Todd County Central on Wednesday and Franklin-Simpson on Thursday.
The Logan County Lady Cougars have a season record of 7-14 for the season so far. The Lady Cougars have gotten three big district wins so far this season. They have faced Russellville and won 12-2 and 19-5. They also had a big win over the Todd County Central Lady Rebels with a 6-5 victory.
The Lady Cougars will travel to McLean County tonight. The Lady Cougars have a district match up next Tuesday as they head to Todd County.
