The second Clash of the Cats baseball game was held on Tuesday afternoon. The Logan County Cougars and the Russellville Panthers battled hard in a game that went into extra innings. The two teams would tie up the game in the sixth inning, but the Cougars would come through in the eighth inning to get the win of 3-1.

The game had a slow start with both teams battling hard to try and gain the lead. Both teams would get big hits to get on base, but the score would remain 0-0 throughout most of the game.

This would all change in the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Logan County Cougar Jacob Wood would single to get on base. Matt Harper would step up to the plate next and hit triple, scoring Wood. The Cougars would be the first to score in the game. They would hold a lead of 1-0, but not for long.

Russellville Panther senior Zach Denney would hit a single to get on base early in the bottom of the sixth. Senior Corey Wright would get a hit in the infield and reach first base. The Cougars attempted to get Denney out, but Denney would slide safely onto home plate and the Panthers would tie the game 1-1.

At the end of the seventh inning, the two teams would head into extra innings to break the 1-1 tie.

The Panthers would intentionally walk Harper and Ian Woodall would be hit by a pitch, leaving two runners on base when Miachael Riley stepped up to the plate.

Riley would get a hard hit to right field, driving in Harper and Jose Arostegui, courtesy runner for Woodall, to put the Cougars on top with a lead of 3-1.

The Cougars defense would quickly end the game in the bottom of the eighth, sealing the 3-1 victory over the Panthers.

Riley led the Cougars with two RBIs and was followed by Harper with one RBI.

Caleb Bruner pitched for the Cougars all eight innings. Bruner allowed two hits, one run, walked one and struck out nine.

Senior Corey Wright would end the game with one RBI for the Panthers. Jacob Proctor pitched for the Panthers all eight innings. Proctor allowed five hits, three runs, walked two and struck out 12.

The Cougars will be travelling to South Warren to compete in the South Warren Invitational. The Cougars will face the South Warren Spartans at 5:00 p.m. tonight. The Panthers will be hosting the Kelly Russell Classic at home on Saturday.
