The Russellville basketball teams traveled to Franklin-Simpson on Tuesday for a district game. The Lady Wildcats would stay undefeated in the district as they beat the Lady Panthers 62-26. The Panthers played a close game and came out with a 65-61 win over the Wildcats.
The Lady Panthers ended their last game against the Lady Wildcats within six points. The Lady Wildcats turned up the intensity early in the game and would gain a big lead over the Lady Panthers early in the game. The Lady Panthers would only score six points in the first half. The Lady Wildcats would lead 47-6 at halftime.
The Lady Panthers would start to pick up their game in the third quarter, but the Lady Wildcat defense held the Lady Panthers to only six points scored in the third quarter. The Lady Panthers would end the third quarter down 12-54. The Lady Panthers would have a good fourth quarter, scoring 14 points, but the Lady Wildcats would take the 62-26 win.
The Panthers would play next and have a close start to the game, but they would pull through with a lead of 15-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats would push hard in the second quarter and the Panthers would begin to lose their gap. The Panthers would only lead by one point with a score of 33-32 at the half
The Panthers would pick up their intensity in the third quarter and would begin to pull away from the Wildcats again. They would end the third quarter with a lead of 51-45. Both teams would battle hard in the fourth quarter, but the Panthers would finish the game with a 65-61 win.
Senior Barrett Croslin and Lee McMurry would finish the game with 17 points each. Pedro Rivera would follow with 14 points and senior Christian Naylor would finish with 10 points.
Russellville will host Logan County tonight in the second Clash of the Cats game this season. The Lady Panthers will face the Lady Cougars at 6 p.m. and the Panthers will face the Cougars at 7:30.
