An apparent explosion outside of Virginia rocked houses for miles away, according to early reports from the Cass County community.
Details were scarce at presstime, but unofficial reports indicated there was some sort of explosion at an unoccupied house on the outskirts of town about 10 p.m.
Resident Johanna Parrish posted on Facebook that her family heard the explosion “and thought our neighbor’s house blew up, so we ran outside to find all our other neighbors looking around.”
Witnesses said the house was on Garner Road near the cemetery north of Virginia.
Tony Gillespie, who lives in Ashland, said he felt the ground shake from about 10 miles away. Others reported feeling the ground shake as far as 30 miles from the blast.
