The press release above is an update to the following story, which the Macon County Times released Wednesday morning:

Lafayette Police Chief Stacy Gann confirmed Wednesday that Citizens Bank on Scottsville Road was robbed Tuesday afternoon, July 8. This occurred at about 2:30 pm.

“A white female went into the bank, handed the teller a note and demanded cash,” said Chief Gann. “I’m assuming it [stated that it] was a holdup. The teller did give her some money. I don’t know the exact amount right now; have to get back with the FBI.

“So of course, she ran out, and right now we know it was a red pickup truck waiting with another male subject. They drove out Highway 10 North.”

Gann said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) responded to the scene soon after the Lafayette Police Department and Macon County Sheriff Department. The FBI is now leading the case, as bank robbery is a Federal offense.

Gann said a photo of the woman may be released to the public after his Wednesday meeting with the FBI. “I’ve got a picture of her and she looks… redheaded right now, you could take it as blonde; I really don’t know.”

Investigators have ascertained that these perpetrators were apparently in the vicinity of a Westmoreland branch bank earlier in the day Tuesday, but they did not enter the bank or attempt a robbery there.

The address of the bank that was robbed is 1108 Scottsville Roadd, Lafayette, TN.
