The Logan County Fair is quickly approaching and this year is expected to be a new awakening for an old community favorite.

The county fair has been a steadfast event in rural communities for decades and Logan County is no different. Fairs provide entertaining week long events filled with livestock, agriculture, food, music, and carnival rides for all to enjoy.

The past few years Logan County has seen low attendance at its fair. Events have been small (mostly animal related), the venue changed (now held at the Logan County Extension Complex), and the community hasn’t supported the age-old event as they once did in the past.

Organizers have seen this as a challenge and have been working hard to revitalize the once well attended function, coming up with lots of activities for the entire community to come out and enjoy.

The 2014 Logan County Fair begins on Saturday, July 26 with a Horse Show at 6:30 p.m. (4 p.m. training and registration). There is a $3 gate fee and the event will be held at the Ag Arena.

On Sunday, July 27 the fair will be open.

On Monday, July 28 there will be a Rabbit Show at 10 a.m. (9 a.m. registration) at the Farmer’s Market and a Lamb/Goat and Swine Show at 6 p.m. (5 p.m. weigh in) at the Ag Arena.

On Tuesday, July 29 there will be a Beef Breeding Show at 6:30 p.m. (weigh in at 5 p.m.) at the Ag Arena.

Carnival Rides will begin at 5 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 30 there will be Logan Live Music from 5-9 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market.

On Thursday, July 31 there will be a Logan Karaoke contest with Clay Bilyeu at the Farmer’s Market. There is a $5 entry fee. There will be a Logan County Fair Little Mr. & Miss Pageant at 6 p.m. at the Logan County Extension Office. There is a $15 entry fee. Also this will be Family Night. Cost is $30 per carload for carnival rides.

On Friday, Aug. 1 there will be a Truck Tug of War at 7 p.m. (scales open at 6 p.m.) at the Ag Arena. Cost is $8. There will be Scottish Dancers from 5-8 p.m. at the Farmer’s Market.

On Saturday, Aug. 2 there will be a Bar-B-Q Cook-Off (tasting and judging begins at 4 p.m.) Cost is $5 per ticket to taste and vote. There will be a concert with Marty Brown with opening act The Springs Band at 6 p.m. Cost is $8 at the gate, presale is $6.

Also on Saturday there will be Extension Day at the Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in the lobby of Extension Office. Free music from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Extension Office.

So come on out and enjoy the week long fun and support the Logan County Fair.
