Apparently the use of an electronic cigarette falls under the no smoking policy on county property the fiscal court passed recently

An electronic cigarette (e-cig or e-cigarette), personal vaporizer (PV) or electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) is a battery-powered vaporizer which simulates tobacco smoking by producing an aerosol commonly, although incorrectly, called “vapor” that resembles smoke. It generally uses a heating element known as an atomizer, that vaporizes a liquid solution known as e-liquid. E-liquids usually contain a mixture of propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, nicotine, and flavorings, while others release a flavored vapor without nicotine.

The benefits and risks of electronic cigarette use are uncertain. Some evidence suggests e-cigarettes may be safer than smoking tobacco products, and possibly as safe as other nicotine replacement products but there is insufficient data to draw conclusions. Many people use electronic cigarettes to wean themselves off of smoking tobacco products.

Emergency Communications Director (ECC/911)Ginger Lawrence asked for fiscal court guidance at its regularly scheduled meeting held Tuesday, June 10 concerning electronic cigarette use on county property. She explained she had been approached by employees who wanted to know if it would be okay because it was actually not a tobacco product.

County attorney Joe Ross advised the court that electronic cigarette use would be harmful as well and that was the reason the no-smoking policy was put in place. Ross said it was his opinion smoking an electronic cigarette should fall under the same policy.

“We may need to amend the current ordinance to be more clear about the use of electric cigarette use of county property,” said Ross.

Lawrence said she wouldn’t have mentioned it if she wasn’t approached about employees wanting to know if it were alright.
