The Russellville High School drama club began performing their annual spring musical last weekend, but there is still two more chances to catch their production of Willy Wonka.

The play will be performed this Friday and Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at the RHS deGraffenreid Auditorium.

“Each year we get a little better at these musicals,” said director Brian Brown. “The kids have gotten used to the system and how we work. They come up with a lot of the ideas for what we do now themselves.”

Some of the seniors have been performing in the musicals for four or five years now.

“They have great experience,” Brown said. “And we have some talented sixth graders and middle school kids that gives us a good mix of youngsters and veterans.”

With one weekend’s worth of performances under their belts, the players should be even better this weekend.

“The second performance last Saturday, you could tell that they were more comfortable,” Brown said. “It’s really neat to see them get to the point where they are just performing. We’re all looking forward to this weekend.”

Every year, the production gets a little more technical.

“This year we’re running about 16 microphones,” Brown said. “We’re getting a little better each year.”

In all, about 40 students are taking part in the play as cast and crew.

“The only adults doing anything is me and the orchestra - everything else is student run,” Brown said.
