Demolition has begun on properties near the intersection of Fourth and Bethel Streets in preparation of building a FiveStar Food Mart.

Structures that once housed Swifty Gas, Shaker Reality and the Blossom Shop, all fell recently making way for what owner Newcomb Oil calls a state of the art convenience store.

Newcomb Oil is a 90 year old family owned business out of Bardstown. They own and operate 70 FiveStar Food Marts that are located throughout the region. Newcomb Oil is a company committed to providing excellent service and quality products that have made them a leader in the petroleum industry. They have proudly served consumer, commercial, industrial and agricultural customers’ needs since 1924. Established as a one-location and one-vehicle distributor of Gulf Oil products, Newcomb Oil Company now operates convenience stores in over 21 counties in Kentucky and Indiana. Newcomb Oil Company serves as a jobber for BP and Marathon fuels, and Chevron lubricants, and Houghton Chemicals, from three locations in Central and Western Kentucky.

FiveStar Food Marts provide excellent customer service and quality products, says Laura Blair, public relations manager for Newcomb Oil. From the fuel they sell to the fresh food they prepare daily in the Country Deli, the store strives to provide the best for its customers.

There will be 14 fueling spots and a diesel dispenser at the new location in Russellville. This should help the flow of traffic when you are buying gas. The store itself is 3,740 square feet. The company is currently working on a new store design which could appear at the Russellville location.

The store in Russellville is anticipated to begin construction in the spring of 2014, if weather permits. From there it should take about six months bringing the opening sometime in the fall of 2014.
