A Franklin teenager was pronounced dead at Logan Memorial Hospital on Tuesday following a suspected drowning in south Logan County outside of Adairville.
The exact cause of death has not been released at this time.
At around 4:05 p.m., central dispatch notified the of an unresponsive 17-year-old male who had been swimming in the Red River off Roy Orndorff Road, according to a report from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department.
Thomas Stubblefield was found by first responders and Adairville police chief Roger Lindsey on the bank of the river. He was being given CPR from several of his friends who were with him at the time.
Witnesses reported that Stubblefield had been swimming in the area for a couple of hours prior to calling 911.
He was then transported to Logan Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by coroner Mary Givens.
The case is under investigation by Det. Charles Dauley of the Sheriff’s Department, along with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and Givens. Sgt. Wright of the Sheriff’s Department, Adairville first responders, the Adairville Police Department, Logan County EMS and the staff of the Logan Memorial Hospital emergency room also assisted in the matter.
