Wednesday, July 23, 2014, marked United Way of Southern Kentucky’s sixth annual Day of Caring. As a result of this program, nearly 1,000 volunteers representing 70 companies across Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson, and Warren Counties joined local non-profit organizations to complete more than 76 projects!

The United Way Day of Caring is a structured volunteer opportunity that provides participants with a peek at volunteering. As part of the Day of Caring, businesses make a commitment to offer their employees a chance to “step away from their desks” to provide hands-on, volunteer labor for a wide variety of projects. Team participation in the Day of Caring aids in building camaraderie and goodwill among employees while also helping the community.

Over the last few months, volunteer teams participating in the Day of Caring have selected their projects based on the information provided, i.e. length of project and estimated number of volunteers. Projects were available for volunteer registration in all counties at www.unitedwaydayofcaring.com on a first come, first serve basis. Projects are accomplished in full and half day increments.

“Good communities become great communities when they work together to advance common goals and dreams. Our United Way Day of Caring program is at the core of bringing people and goals together for one incredible day of community service. Employees, employers, nonprofit agencies, and numerous beneficiaries of local services work side by side to help make our community a better place to live, and that’s truly what it means to LIVE UNITED!” said Steve Wallace, President & CEO of United Way of Southern Kentucky.
