And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Matthew 16:30-31
We have before us the account of the rich man and Lazarus. Lazarus was a saved man and the rich man was a lost man. The rich man died and so did Lazarus.
In hell the rich man lifted up his eyes and across that great gulf he saw Lazarus in Abraham’s bosom. The rich man was in torment in hell. Hell is a real place and it is a place God has prepared.
one thing I notice about the rich man is that once he went to hell he became concerned about his five brothers. As he spoke to Abraham he suggested that Lazarus come back from the dead to warn them.
Look closely at what Abraham told him in verse 29 (they have Moses and the prophets let them hear them). At this time, the new testament was not completed. The reference to Moses and the prophets is talking about the old testament. This would have been the ultimate gimmick, trick and sideshow.
Can you imagine Lazarus walking back into town with the grave clothes still on? You better believe he could get a huge crowd and many professions.
Abraham said if they won’t year the word of God, they won’t repent though one rose from the dead.
God has chosen an elect number from Adam’s fallen race to save. He also has chosen the means to bring them to him. These means are the preaching of the gospel.
I am alarmed at what low level churches are going to in our day. I challenge all pastors who read this article to eliminate all the fluff from your church services and get back to the Bible way of worship.
The early church had preaching, prayer, singing, the Lord’s supper and baptism. If churches got back to this, it would greatly help our nation. This gimmick sideshow garbage has created an environment that breeds false professions in the church.
Then you must keep it up to keep them. The Bible way of church services is not enough to keep lost people interested. I have seen many gimmicks and tricks in my life. I knew a so-called preacher who kept a calf bottle in the pulpit. When he felt like people did not like what he said, he would get the bottle out and go up and down the aisle telling people to suck on the bottle. Oh what a sad joke.
I will close with a list of gimmicks that I have observed. Remember one thing, these may draw a crowd and get professions, but they will prove to be false. Puppet ministries, Christian magic shows, weight lifting teams, Christian so-called rock concerts, long drawn out invitations at the end of church services, emotional so-called Christian movies and the list could go on. If the preaching of the cross through the power of God does not bring men to repentance then they will die and go to hell. Amen.
