The Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross is partnering with Logan Memorial Hospital to launch Champions for Life. Champions for Life is a Red Cross healthcare initiative designed to create strong partnerships with area hospitals.
One goal of the initiative is to increase blood donations at hospital sponsored blood drives. It’s also an opportunity to recognize sponsors and blood donors for their dedication to the Red Cross blood program. Logan Memorial Hospital is sponsoring two blood drives this year. All eligible donors are encouraged to help Logan Memorial Hospital meet that commitment.
Champions for Life kicks off at Logan Memorial Hospital with a blood drive on Thursday, June 19, from 9am to 1pm at Logan Memorial Hospital located at 1625 Nashville Street in Russellville, KY. For more information, or to schedule your blood donation appointment, call TriStar Medline at 615-342-1919. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Although every blood type is important, type O donors play a critical role in maintaining the blood supply. Type O negative is often called the universal blood type because it can be transfused to a person with any blood type.
The relationship the Red Cross has with your community is important. Your tradition of donating blood with the Red Cross to supply the region’s medical centers has been and continues to be vital to community healthcare.
If you are at least 17 years of age*, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood. For more information or to find a blood drive near you, please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543).
*In Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee, you may give blood at 16 years of age with parental consent.
