Stabbing incident only involved family

According to Commonwealth Attorney Gail Guiling, Lewisburg residents can rest assure there is not a suspect running around their neighborhoods in connection with a recent stabbing in the Lake Malone area.

On Saturday, May 28, an Indiana man was stabbed near the Lake Malone area. Details of the incident are few at this time, however, according to Guiling, the case only involved the three family members who were present at the incident.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, a call came into the Logan County Emergency Communications Center (ECC) from Barbara Hazelrigg, 47, of Newburg, Ind., claiming her husband David Hazelrigg had been stabbed at 211 Rocky Acres Drive at Lake Malone. According to the police, Mrs. Hazelrigg told dispatchers that her husband was bleeding severely and needed help.

Deputy Billy Poole of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Car Wash in Lewisburg where he met the victim who was bleeding severely and unconscious due to blood loss. Poole stated Mr. Hazelrigg had been stabbed in the arm cutting an artery. Deputy Poole bandaged the wound prior to EMS arriving and stopped the bleeding.

EMS transported Hazelrigg to Logan Memorial Hospital. He was later transferred to Skyline Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., due to the severity of the injury.

Also listed on a press release from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department was a third party, the Hazelrigg’s 19-year-old son Adam Hazelrigg. The Hazelriggs have returned to Indiana, however, the incident is still under investigation.

“The Commonwealth plans to take this case before the grand jury,” said Guiling.
