Stevenson Elementary is excited to share that they have just wrapped up their second bornLearning Academy, celebrating with both the 2015-2016 Graduates and the Alumni Class of 2014-2015.
On the third Thursday of each month for the past six months, families and many volunteers have been at Stevenson Elementary having a great time while playing and learning together. As first-year caregivers each participated in the series of six workshops that provided user-friendly ideas to turn everyday activities into learning moments.
The alumni caregivers were participating in separate workshops that provided valuable information on internet safety for the entire family; family programming at the local library as well as programming for children, teens, and adults; drug, specifically prescription-drug safety information; simple ways to incorporate music and art into everyday activities; and nutritional guidelines, specifically age-appropriate proper-portion sizes and dietary needs.
Each of the six sessions provided a family meal, workshops for the children, and time together as a family to practice what was learned that evening.
The final session was held Thursday, February 19, and concluded with a special recognition ceremony for the families who attended the classes. Grand prizes were awarded, a celebration cake was enjoyed by all, and Russellville School Superintendent Leon Smith presented each family with their Certificate of Completion from the bornLearning Academy program.
Graduates were: Brandy Bell and son, Jatorin; Danny Cabrera and Guadelupe Garcia with children, Dayana and Genesis; Marilyn Espinoza with children, Isaiah and Melony; Diana Vera with children, Kevin, Kylie, and Dalasza; Jazmin Vera with son Diego. Alumni were: Debbie Clayton with granddaughter, Miaveh; Meghan Lee with children, Kadance and Thaddeus; Abel Reyes and Claudia Zurita with children, Luis and Alexander; Ashely Elliott with son, Draden; Amy Duncan with son Bradley.
