Each year the Lewisburg Family Resource Youth Service Center identifies families in need of food baskets for Thanksgiving. In the past the students have participated in a canned food drive, but last year the Family Resource Center decided to take a different approach and challenge classrooms to put together an entire food basket for one family. “This way the students get to see a completed basket and not just collect corn or green beans.” said Melanie Manley Center Director.
To add to the excitement we also challenged the classrooms to decorate the boxes to add a personalized touch. The results were amazing, students collected 40 complete food boxes for families in the community. The artwork the students created was far beyond expectations. One parent was moved to tears when she came to pick up her box and saw how beautiful it was.
“This will be our center piece” she said proudly. The Lewisburg Cafeteria staff also got involved and decorated a beautiful basket and filled it with food. “It’s awesome to see our school come together as one student body and be a part of this project that gives back to the community. ” said Principal Randy Marcum.
