“The purpose of bringing our community together for this event is threefold – remembrance of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy, appreciation to all our Logan County first responders agencies (municipal and rural) and all our military for their vital role in protecting our freedoms and to God Almighty who has blessed us with allowing the privilege to live in the great land!” continued Cowan who said the idea came about after he participated in another honoring event held here in the community last year.
“When I realized there wasn’t anything planned for this year I wanted to help get something going because I enjoyed the event I participated in last year very much,” said Cowan who started asking for help and found it in Mike Humble of the Burden Bearers Chaplaincy Corp.
After talking with Humble and Crossroads Church the idea quickly became a reality and began coming together with the help of many. Cowan is the pastor at Crossroads in Russellville, where the event will take place. He does not want people to think the event is focused to get people to attend his church, but instead wants to convey that this is a community wide invitation for the community to gather together and thank all those who help their fellow man, while remembering a day in history where people lost their lives.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. and organizers are asking families to bring their children as well. There will be a variety of things for the kids to do including inflatables which will be up and running for children to enjoy until 9 p.m. There will be free popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, cola and water.
At 6 p.m. multiple emergency service agencies will begin parking their official, marked vehicles on the field of the event. At 7 p.m. Live Worship will play until 7:30 p.m. and then the AirVac Life Team helicopter will land and our “Remembrance & Appreciation Service” will begin (45 minute service). The remembrance will be for all who died at the World Trade Center on 9/11/01 and an appreciation of all our first responders throughout Logan County. These include the chaplains, local pastors, fire and police departments, (Russellville, Adairville, Auburn, Olmstead, Logan County agencies and rural agencies, etc.), state troopers, sheriff department, drug taskforce, AirEvac, red cross, dispatchers and EMS ambulance services.
