The Macedonia Baptist Church Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 was presented to Derrod J. Blakey. He was the first recipient of this Christian education scholarship award which was presented based on academics and his dedicated service and spiritual leadership to his church and community.

The son of LaShall Blakey and Bobby Whitney, Derrod will attend Georgetown College in Georgetown where he will major in psychology. He was a 2010 graduate of Logan County High School and graduated with a 3.17 GPA.

The Macedonia Baptist Church Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 under the guidance of Chairman Katherine Hart and Assistant Emma Kendrick. The objective is to provide additional funding to graduating high school seniors from the congregation that will pursue educational opportunities or career development beyond the high school level.
