Incoming Stevenson Elementary School principal Lisa White is planning a series of round table talks next week in order to get to find out what is on the minds of the school’s parent stakeholders.

The SES “Parent Pow Wows” will take place the first week in June at the school and White is hoping to talk with as many parents and guardians as possible.

“It’s their school,” White said. “They’re part of the Stevenson family and I wanted to hear what they have to say.”

The talks will be at various times throughout the week.

“We wanted to have them at different times to work around people’s schedules,” White said. “We have times set up from early morning to around lunchtime to later in the evening.”

The groups will be small - no more than 8-10 parents at a time sitting around a table and talking with White about where they would like to see the school go in the coming years.

“I want to know what their concerns are,” White said. “They trust us with their kids all day and I want to hear their ideas what they want. I want to listen to the suggestions they have for me and make plans with them on how we can accomplish those goals.”

White is also hoping that the parent meetings can help drum up interest in the Stevenson Parent Teacher Organization.

“We don’t have the involvement in PTO that we want and we hope that this is the first step in getting there,” White said.

Stevenson Family Resource Director Carol Kees is handling the registration for the discussions. Any parents or guardians that want to sign up for a time or get more information can call the school at 270-726-8425.

White said that she is also planning a Stevenson “family work day” for this summer, where parents can come and help spruce up the building and grounds.

“We just want them to feel like they can add something to the school,” White said. “We are redesigning all six of the bathrooms in the school and that’s something we’ll be working on. We also need some help with landscaping and other things. Even if you can just volunteer for 30 minutes - that will be a help We are hoping for a big turnout.”
