ALTON —The Madison County Coroner announced Saturday the investigation into a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 28-year-old Alton man early Saturday morning, according to a news release.
Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn identified the man as Kenneth A. Johnson Jr. of the 800 block of Oakwood in Alton.
Johnson was driving a 2004 Chevy Trail Blazer westbound on Homer Adams Parkway in Alton reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, according to the release. The vehicle apparently went out of control and struck a traffic signal pole at the intersection of Homer Adams Parkway and Seminary Road, in Alton, before leaving the roadway and coming to rest in an overturned position.
Authorities received report of the crash at 2:19 a.m. Saturday. The news release stated that Johnson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 a.m. as the result of blunt head trauma, according to the coroner’s report. Two passengers in the vehicle were wearing seat belts and reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Alton Police Department; routine toxicology testing will be performed.
Funeral arrangements remain pending at this time.
