Hello from the great little town of Adairville, Kentucky and it’s statewide award winning school. The town is very proud of our school, the faculty, support staff and the administration that all have to pull together to make our school continue to be the outstanding school that it is. Hooray for the parents and community leaders that support the school so well.
Thanks to Wayne Stratton who has been the mover and shaker to help our top winning archery team. The Adairville School, archery team, parents and coaching staff have just completed hosting a very large multi school archery tournament where our boys and girls all made us very proud.
The Adairville/South Logan Chamber of Commerce met last week at their office and museum on Main Street. The turnout was very good. Plans were put into place for our annual Easter events on Saturday just prior to Easter. This year our parade will feature the youth. Their parents will have to drive them. We hope to honor our teams from the Adairville School, our church youth, our graduating seniors from the high school and others that will soon be announced. Following the Easter Parade will be the annual egg hunt. There will be lots of eggs and lots of prizes. We are hoping to again have the largest hunt in the county. Watch coming columns in the paper for more details. There will be some posters up in town right away.
The 68th Annual Adairville Strawberry Festival will be coming up in May. The first weekend will be Adairville’s 10 Anniversary Car Show. Brent Holman is again serving as chairman. All kinds of cars, trucks and tractors will be invited to enter the show. The annual 4-K Run will also be that same Saturday. More details are coming. The chamber is also planning on a big fund raiser dinner this year. It will probably be that same evening.
The second week of May is always the actual Strawberry Festival. The theme will be “Growing Sweet Memories.” The Casey Shows will be back with a top array of rides and look for lots of vendors, entertainment and good food. Arm bands will go on sale in April. Retiring County Schools Superintendent, Marshal Kemp, will be the Grand Marshal for the Strawberry Festival Parade this year. Look for some honors for Adairville’s home town boy!
The late Nannette Starks King will be honored by the chamber at this years Strawberry Festival. The beautiful pergola in the town square park that faces Main Street (Hwy. 431) will be named in her memory.
I read in Tuesday’s News Democrat Leader where the Red River meeting House is being repaired and spruced up. Back in the early 1990s the meeting house had been burned by vandals and had to be rebuilt. The Gunderson Brothers did a wonderful job rebuilding one of the most famous Christian meeting houses in America. I am not sure they got all of the credit they deserved for the outstanding job . The meeting house remains a wonderful site for our community and the nation.
All for now. Good night Mrs. Calabash where ever you are.
