Logan drops close games to South Warren

Tuesday night the Logan County teams faced South Warren. The Logan County Lady Cougars would play a close first half of the game, but fall behind in the second half. They would end the game with a 58-44 loss against the Lady Spartans. The Cougars would also play a close game against the Spartans, but would fall behind in the fourth quarter and lose 76-64.

The Lady Cougars would start the game off close to the Lady Spartans, but would end the first quarter trailing 7-11. In the second quarter, the Lady Cougars would start to gain on the Lady Spartan lead. They would end the first half of the game down only 18-20.

The Lady Spartans would pick up their game in the second half of the game. Their offense would start to increase their lead and defensively they would hold back the Lady Cougars from coming back. They Lady Cougars would fall 44-58 by the end of the game.

Senior Katelyn Jones and Maegann Hardison would lead the Lady Cougars with seven points each. Senior Megan Lindsey and Kapreshia Powell would finish with six points each.

The Cougars would also begin their game close against the Spartans. The Cougars would fight hard but trail 14-20 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams would pick up the intensity in the second quarter and both teams would score 14 points in the quarter. But the Spartans would still carry a six point lead of 34-28 going into the third quarter.

In the third quarter, the teams would still continue to stay even offensively. By the end of the quarter the Spartans would still hold on to their lead of seven points with a score of 51-44. The Cougars would fight hard in the fourth quarter and score 20 points, but the Spartans would out-score them. The Cougars would fall 64-76.

Ben Wright would lead the Cougars with 17 points. He was followed by senior Clint Knight with 13 and senior Landon Stratton with eight.

The 13th district tournament will begin next week and all games will be held at Logan County High School. The Cougars will play on Monday and face the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats at approximately 8:00 p.m. The Lady Cougars will play on Tuesday and face the Todd County Central Lady Rebels at 6:30.
