Lady Cougars win big; Cougars fall in last quarter

The Logan County Basketball teams hosted teams from Barren County during their “Tropical Tuesday” of homecoming week. The Lady Cougars played first and would take off in the first quarter. The Lady Cougars would end the game with a 34 point win over the Trojanettes. The Cougars were next and would have a good start to the game. The Cougars would lead throughout most of the second half, but the Trojans would come back and take the win of 61-55.


The Lady Cougars had a phenomenal start to the game after taking a 14-point lead over the Trojanettes by the end of the first quarter. The Lady Cougars would continue to work hard and end the first half of the game with a 20 point lead of 39-19.


In the third quarter, the Lady Cougars continued to pick up their game and score points. Their defense also was able to hold the Trojanettes to only seven points in the third quarter. The Lady Cougars would end the third quarter with a 25 point lead of 51-26.


The Lady Cougars would continue to accelerate in the fourth quarter. With three minutes left in the game, the Lady Cougars would hold a 36 point lead which would result in a running clock. The two teams would finish out the game but the Lady Cougars would have a 34 point victory of 66-32.


Maegann Hardison would lead the Lady Cougars with 18 points. Seniors Katelyn Jones and Megan Lindsey followed with 11 points each.


The Cougars would play next. They would have a good start to the game and gain a small lead in the first quarter. But by the end of the quarter, the Trojans would come back and tie the game 11-11. The two teams would head into the second quarter and keep the score tied for a majority of the time. The Cougars would begin to pull away near the end and have a four point lead of 30-26 at the half.


The Cougars and Trojans were even throughout the third quarter. The Cougars were not able to pull away but would end the third quarter with a lead of 4 points of 43-39. The two teams continued to battle on into the fourth quarter. The Cougars would be able to hold on to their lead until two minutes left in the fourth.


The Trojans would take the lead of 50-49. The Cougars would stay stuck and have a few turnovers as the Trojans would quickly gain an eight point lead with one minute remaining. The Cougars would begin to foul to gain possession of the ball, but they would make mistakes and end the game with a six point loss of 61-55.


Senior Landon Stratton would lead the Cougars with 18 points. Ben Wright would follow with 16 points and Taylor Blakemore with 13.


The Cougars will have their next game on Monday against Trigg County. The Cougars will play at home at 7:30. The Lady Cougars will not have a game until the Clash of the Cats next Friday.


Tonight the Russellville teams will be heading to South Warren. The Lady Panthers will face the Lady Spartans on 6:00 p.m. and the Panthers will play the Spartans at approximately 7:30.
