The Russellville basketball teams hosted Franklin-Simpson on Friday night during their homecoming games. The Lady Panthers faced the Lady Wildcats and fought hard against the best team in the district, but would end the night with a 47-41 loss. The Panthers would face the Wildcats next and come out strong and end the game with a 61-49 win.
The Lady Panthers had a great start to their game against the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Panthers played great defense and would end the first quarter with a lead of 12-11. The Lady Wildcats would start to pick up their game in the second quarter, but the Lady Panthers fought hard and would keep the game close. The Lady Panthers would trail 20-23 at halftime.
The second half of the game was great for the Lady Panthers as they kept the game close behind the Lady Wildcats, who are undefeated in the district. The Lady Panthers would end the third quarter down by five points with a score of 28-33. Both teams continued to fight hard, but the Lady Wildcats would end the game with a win of 47-41 over the Lady Panthers.
Senior Khalia Hampton would lead the Lady Panthers with 26 points. Loreal Chaney would follow with 10 points.
The Panthers would play next and have a strong start against the Wildcats. The Panthers would end the first quarter with a five point lead of 15-10. During the second quarter the Panthers would play smart and have a 17 point lead with four minutes to go in the second quarter. The Wildcats would fight back, but the Panthers would still maintain a big gap, ending the second quarter 28-18.
The Panthers would continue to fight hard and increase their lead against the Wildcats. Senior Barrett Croslin would hit a three-point shot for the Panthers at the end of the third quarter, giving the Panthers a 18 point lead of 46-28. The Panthers would end the game scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter, sealing their win against the Wildcats with a score of 61-49.
The Panthers will be competing in the 4th Region All “A” Classic this week. The Lady Panthers will be back at home next Tuesday as they face University Heights Academy at 7:30. The Panthers will travel to Glasgow next Tuesday and face the Scotties at 6 p.m..
